The Compass Table is a mission-style table that sits in our front room. It's a low table that is used for eating and gaming whenever people gather here for get-togethers or parties. The table is one meter square and it's surface lifts up to reveal a hidden storage compartment.
The Compass Table surface is covered with 2,150 miniature 20mm compasses that are topped with a non-reflective glass plate. The four coasters are made from thickened high power model rocket flight hardware that one would normally find inside of a large model rocket, and include two motor centering rings with Kaplow Klips and two baffle bulkheads.
Embedded within the coasters are neodymium magnets. The magnets make the compasses spin as you move your drink coaster around the table. The effect is mesmerizing and has been described as visual bubble wrap.
